Garronpoint former ATE

The former Garronpoint telephone exchange still stands on Garron Road, Carnlough, Ballymena BT44 0JU.
It opened as a UAX12 at 11 am on Thursday 27 January 1938, replacing a manual exchange opened seven years earlier.
This GPO publicity shot of the adjacent kiosk was taken on 1 November 1938. By 1951, the exchange had only five subscribers’ lines. It closed in 1959 when its few lines were taken over by the new Carnlough exchange.
