This exchange is scheduled to cease operation in December 2030 and close in June 2031.

The third automatic exchange in Dudley was in Parsons Street (now DY1 1JE).

It came into service on 9 May 1959 and was formally opened by Postmaster-General Ernest Marples two days later. When it was replaced by the current exchange it was converted into flats and named Metropolitan Lofts.

The second automatic exchange in Dudley was in Parsons Street (now DY1 1JE), built as part of a redevelopment alongside a labour exchange.

It came into service on 8 February 1930, initially serving 821 subscribers. It was part of a linked numbering scheme with Cradley Heath, Brierley Hill and Stourbridge automatic exchanges which all opened on the same day. It closed on 9 May 1959. It is now provides rooms to let.

The first automatic exchange in Dudley was installed in the former main post office, Wolverhampton Street, Dudley (now DY1 1DZ).

It came into service 1916 using the Western Electric Rotary system – the second and last GPO telephone exchange to do so. It replaced a National Telephone Company manual exchange at 64 Tower Street (which itself replaced one in Spring Gardens).  It closed on 8 February 1930 when a new automatic exchange opened in Parsons Street. The building is now derelict.

In 1981, an exchange called Ryemarket – later Rye Market – appeared in code books alongside the Dudley group code. When questioned by local newspapers at the time, BT said it was the name of a relief exchange planned to open in Stourbridge the following year. It is not clear to us whether such an exchange opened or whether any Ryemarket numbers were ever issued.

Stourbridge ATE is situated in St. Johns Road, Stourbridge DY8 1LP and serves Amblecote, Audnam, Gigmill, Norton, Oldswinford, Pedmore, Stourbridge and Wollaston.
