The former Caerleon ATE (seen here behind the colonnade) stands on the south east side of Museum Street, Caerleon, Newport NP18 1AX.

Roman remains were discovered during the building of the UAX13 in September 1937. The exchange closed around 1972 and the building now forms part of the garden of the National Roman Legion Museum.

Its dialling code was 063 342.

Caerleon former TE

The former Caerleon manual exchange was in Jubilee Cottages, Museum Street, Caerleon, Newport NP18 1AX.

It was opened by the National Telephone Company. The building survived after automation (a UAX 13 was built on the opposite side of the street) but was later demolished. The site is now the access area to the current exchange.

It came into service around 1940, lines becoming Newport 7**** numbers. After closure it was sold off and is currently (2025) a Pentecostal church.

Its dialling code was 0633.

Maindee manual TE

Maindee’s manual exchange was at 6 Duckpool Road, Maindee, Newport (now NP19 8FH).

It was brought into service by the National Telephone Company. It closed on 14 August 1915 when lines were transferred to the first Newport ATE. It is now a vape shop.
