Ferryhill ATE
Ferryhill telephone exchange is situated in Magdalene Place, Ferryhill DL17 8BA
It came into service around January 1971. An earlier UAX was adjacent to the current exchange but has since been demolished. It replaced a CBS2 manual exchange run by Mr and Mrs Hutchinson in 1960.
Its telephone codes include 01740-65.
The dialling code of the UAX was 074 05.

Oldacres former relief Exchange
The former Oldacres telephone exchange was a relief unit attached to Sedgefield prior to the opening of the new exchange.
It came into service in January 1971 and its lines were taken over by the new Sedgefield exchange on 28 February 1972.
Its dialling code was 074 07.

Sedgefield ATE
Sedgefield telephone exchange is in Neville Drive, Sedgefield TS21 3EX.
It came into service on 28 February 1972 replacing the former Sedgefield and Oldacres relief exchanges.
Its telephone codes include 01740-2 and 01740-62.
Its former dialling code was 0740.

Sedgefield former ATE
The former Sedgefield telephone exchange is in The Lane, behind 56 North End, Sedgefield TS21 3BT.
It came into service as a UAX13 in May 1939 to replace a manual board.
It closed on 28 February 1972 and is now privately owned.

Stillington ATE
Stillington telephone exchange is off the road to Grindon, Stillington, Stockton on Tees TS21 1JD.
It came into service around 1978 to replace a UAX, when lines became Sedgefield 30*** numbers.
Its telephone codes include 01740-3, 01740-63 and 01740-81.
Its former dialling code was 0740.

The former Stillington telephone exchange is in Morrison Street, Stillington, Stockton on Tees TS21 1JD.
It came into service as a UAX13 around 1951, replacing a CBS2 manual exchange. It ceased operation around 1978.

West Cornforth former ATE
We don’t know the location of the former West Cornforth telephone exchange.
The first auto exchange here came into service in the early 1930s as an RAX5. It ceased operation around 1980 when lines were taken over by Ferryhill exchange as Ferryhill 54*** numbers.

Wolviston ATE
Wolviston telephone exchange is located in West Hartlepool Road, Wolviston, Billingham TS22 5JZ.
It came into service, possibly in the 1950s, to replace the earlier exchange in Mill Road. Â It was converted from Strowger to digital working in June 1989.
Its telephone codes include 01740-64 and 01740-66.
Its former dialling code was 074 04.

Wolviston former ATE
The former Wolviston telephone exchange is in Mill Lane off Wynyard Road, Wolviston, Billingham TS22 5LJ.
It came into service as an RAX 5 on Tuesday 10 March 1931. It was converted to UAX12 a few years later before being closed, possibly in the 1950s, when the current exchange was built.
