The former Hanwood telephone exchange stands in Orchard Lane, Hanwood, Shrewsbury SY5 8LE.
The first ATE here was a UAX12 opened around 1949.
It closed in the 1980s and is now a house called The Old Telephone Exchange.
Its dialling code was 074 382.

Pontesbury ATE
Pontesbury Telephone Exchange is located on the A488 in Minsterley, Shrewsbury SY5 0BW and serves Malehurst, Minsterley, Pontesbury, Pontesbury Hill and the surrounding villages.
The first Pontesbury ATE was an RAX5 (location unknown) which opened at 9am on 8 September 1931. The current exchange replaced the former Pontesbury and Minsterley exchanges in the 1980s.
The telephone code for this exchange is 01743-79.

Minsterley former ATE
The former Minsterley telephone exchange stood in Station Rd, Minsterley, Shrewsbury SY5 0BD.
The first Minsterley ATE was a UAX 12 opened in 1936. The exchange closed in the 1980s when lines were taken over by the new Pontesbury exchange as Shrewsbury numbers. It has since been demolished.
Its dialling code was 074 374.

Shrewsbury former ATE
The first automatic telephone exchange in Shrewsbury was at 28/29a Pride Hill, Shrewsbury SY1 1DP.
It came into service at 2pm on Saturday 9 January 1926 in a purpose-built extension to the town’s post office (the Clarendon Hotel having previously stood on the site).
It closed at 1pm on Saturday 3 October 1959 when 4,300 lines were transferred to the current exchange.
The building now (2025) houses a building society branch.
