Auchenmalg ATE
Auchenmalg Telephone Exchange is located on the A747 in Auchenmalg, Newton Stewart DG8 0JP and serves Auchenmalg, Glenluce, Sandhead and the surrounding area.
At around 11.55 on Monday 19 August 2019 the exchange building burned down, believed to be due to a malfunction of the generator engine.
This resulted in 137 subscribers, situated on the A747 between Auchenmalg and Port William, losing their phone and broadband services.
Three fire engines from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were sent to put out the blaze and there were no casualties.
As can be seen in the photo on the right a portable building is still in place to provide services to the area.
