On 16 April 1995 (‘PhONEday’) Leeds numbers were changed from 0532 xxxxxx to 0113 2xx xxx.
Prior to 1975 exchanges on the outskirts of Leeds had the code 0973, which then changed to 0532.

Roundhay former ATE

The former Roundhay automatic exchange stands at 2 Devonshire Crescent, Roundhay, Leeds LS8 1EP
It came into service, along with the former Chapeltown, Headingley and Stanningley (renamed Pudsey) exchanges, on 7 November 1925 as part of a Leeds linked numbering scheme.
In 1933, 450 lines were transferred to the new Oakwood ATE. It is now used as offices.
Its dialling code was 0532.

Roundhay former Manual Exchanges

Roundhay’s first manual exchange was at Woodland Cottage, now 665 Roundhay Road, Oakwood, Leeds LS8 4BA.
Opened in the 1880s by the National telephone Company, it is believed to have been replaced around 1908 by an exchange at 450 Roundhay Road.

Roundhay’s second manual exchange was on the top (fourth) floor of 450 Roundhay Road, Oakwood, Leeds LS8 2HU.
Transferred from Woodland Cottage about 1908, it closed on 7 November 1925 when an ATE was opened in Devonshire Crescent.

The former Rothwell telephone exchange is situated in Butcher Lane, Rothwell, Leeds LS28 0DB.
It opened as a UAX 14 on 6 March 1940 and closed in 1972.
It has since been converted into a children’s nursery called Tina’s Tots.
Its dialling code was 097 334.

Former Leeds Exchanges
- Aberford Former ExchangeAberford ATE stood in Cattle Lane, Aberford, Leeds LS25 3EP. Formerly a UAX12, it closed in 1981, lines being transferred to Barwick-in-Elmet exchange as Leeds 81**** numbers. Its dialling code was 097 332.
- Oakwood Former ExchangeOakwood ATE stood at 635 Roundhay Road, Oakwood, Leeds LS8 4BA. It came into service on 1 July 1933, taking 450 lines from the then Roundhay ATE. It was sited close to the former Roundhay manual exchanges. After closure it was sold by BT in 1986, demolished and replaced by the Princes House office block. Its dialling code was 0532.
